Google's submarine cable network FASTER, which began to connect Japan and the United States in June, has extended to Taiwan on September 6, reported Independence Evening Post. This extension to Taiwan, where Google's largest data center in Asia is located, can provide a data rate of up to 26Tb per second, dramatically increasing the data transmit speed through Taiwan to other Asian countries. The costs of the extension is estimated at US$50 million, with partial investments coming from NCIC (New Century InfoComm Tech Co., Ltd.) in Taiwan and KDDI in Japan. The submarine cable is expected to fortify Google Search, YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail. Aside from individual users, Google's enterprise clients of cloud and advertising services will also gain better efficiency and user experiences.
